I grew up desperately trying to control everyone and everything around me. This exhausting endeavor stemmed from a chaotic childhood, marked by the early loss of my father and a subsequent unstable upbringing. The relentless chaos led me to constantly seek order in my surroundings, a pursuit that left me further drained and feeling out of control.
Eventually, I realized that the only thing I could truly control was myself. This epiphany allowed me to grant myself—and others—grace, understanding, and empathy. It reshaped my outlook on life, enabling me to redirect my focus towards what I can control: my thoughts, my words, and my actions.
What you allow into your mind is crucial, as it shapes your thoughts and ultimately your reality. Be mindful of what you listen to, read, watch, and hear during your day. While being aware of the world is important, it’s equally vital to balance that intake with positivity and growth-oriented content. Consider what you are consuming that moves your life forward each day and resist what does not serve you.
A challenge: Spend a day writing down everything that enters your mind through listening, watching, reading, and hearing. Then apply a filter: transform your mental diet into one that nurtures growth and positivity. Remember, while you cannot control the external world, you can choose what influences your internal state.
Words are powerful tools in creating your freedom-filled life. They can either build or tear-down, depending on how they're delivered. Evaluate the words you speak—to yourself and to others. Are they life-giving and life-building, or are they critical and destructive? Cultivate a mindset that fosters positive self-dialogue, which naturally extends to those around you.
I urge you to apply a "word filter" and consciously choose to speak words that empower rather than diminish. Challenge yourself to surround your life with voices and texts that inspire and uplift you.
Your thoughts and words culminate in actions. Are the actions you're taking reflective of the life you aspire to lead? Transform chaotic actions into constructive behaviors by recognizing patterns that may need adjustment. Whether it’s organizing your space, managing finances, embracing physical health, or deepening relationships, each action plays a pivotal role in shaping your life's path.
Consider the relationships in your life: Are they deepening and adding value, or do they remain superficial? Work towards nurturing meaningful connections. The ultimate question is whether you are living a life you'd be proud to see replicated by future generations.
In summary, adopting a deliberate approach to filtering your thoughts, words, and actions is foundational in rebuilding a freedom-filled legacy. This intentional life will influence generations to come, leaving a mark well beyond your years. Whether you’re a believer or not, this philosophy is universally powerful, stemming from intentional living rooted in truth and reality. What you do from this day forward has generational impact. What will be your legacy?
